FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

What are Digestive Enzymes, and how do they work?

Digestive enzymes are chemicals found in plants, animals, and fungi that help break down food into usable parts. Supplements are designed to relieve digestive discomfort and increase metabolism and energy.

Do all digestive enzyme supplements being sold work?

Unfortunately, MOST of the products on the market don’t work effectively. Many of them don’t have the right ingredients, and some of them are loaded with fillers, binders, and dyes that interfere with the effectiveness of the enzymes themselves.

What label information should I look for?

You want a supplement with a broad range of digestive enzymes, preferably at least 20 different kinds of enzymes that include lipases, amylases, and proteases. Avoid companies that have any unnecessary ingredients.

Is it safe to use digestive enzymes?

We always recommend that you consult your physician if you feel a digestive enzyme supplement may interfere with an existing medical condition. To the best of our knowledge, digestive enzymes do not interfere with other medications or conditions. Pregnant and nursing women should consult their physician.

How do I use digestive enzyme supplements?

Take one supplement with a meal once daily.

How long does it take before I see results?

Many of our customers report results the first time they use a digestive enzyme supplement.  For some people they begin to see even more benefits after a week; and after about a month they see improvement in many other areas.

What is the right price to pay?

Pricing will vary from seller to seller. We have seem some digestive enzymes sold for as much as $100 a bottle, which we think is overpriced. Most of the supplements we looked at fell in the $30 – $50 price range. If something looks too good to be true, it probably is, so be careful. Typically the less expensive brands either don’t have the right combination of enzymes or don’t have enough units of activity per capsule and require you to take 3-4 pills a day, so what at first seemed like a 30 day supply quickly turns into a 14 day supply or less.

Which ones are the best?

Different people find different products more or less effective with digestive enzymes, as with anything. We here at usaconsumerreport particularly prefer Addzymes. They are the brand that has the most effective range of digestive enzymes and the most units of activity. We loved this product and we think you will too.
